Important Events and Quotations

• Ender gets on shuttle to go to battle school
• Graff talks about how amazing Ender is and Ender realizes that Graff is making the other kids hate him: “Then it became clear.  Graff had deliberately caused it.  It was worse than the abuse in the shows.  When the sergeant picked on you, the others liked you better.  But when the officer prefers you, the others hate you” (24)
• Kids bully Ender, and then Ender accidentally breaks one of the kids’ (Benard’s) arms.
• When Ender next encounters Graff, he says how he though Graff was his friend: “I thought you were my friend.  Despite himself, Ender’s voice trembled” (25)
• When Ender leaves, Graff states that he actually is Ender’s friend: “They stood in silence a while longer.  Anderson.  Mmm.  The kid’s wrong.  I am his friend” (26)
