Chapter 12 key points:

1. General Pace and Colonel Graff think that Ender needs to reach the peak of all his abilities by having fights, toughening himself and being independent without adults. “Ender Wiggin must believe that no matter what happens, no adult will ever, ever step in to help him in any way. He must believe, to the core in his soul, that he can only do what he and the other children work out for themselves. If he does not believe that, then he will never reach the peak of his abilities” (142).

 2. The other kids are afraid of Ender and they hate Ender, because he has won so many games and the kids belong to armies that have commanders that hate Ender. “A few of them looked at him, and looked away too quickly; others were too tense, too nervous as they pretended to be relaxed” (144).

3. Although many people hate Ender, Ender still has a friend to protect him and warn him about dangerous things that are about to happen. On Ender’s message board, it reads: “Don’t be alone. Ever. –Dink” (145).

 4. Bonzo and his friends were really mean to Ender, they tried to kill him but instead Ender fought back and hurts (kills) Bonzo instead. “All Ender could see, though, was the way Bonzo looked as Ender kicked upward into his groin, The empty, dead look in his eyes. He was already finished then. Already unconscious. His eyes were open, but he wasn’t thinking or moving anymore, just that dead, stupid look on his face, that terrible look, the way Stilson looked when I finished with him.” (149-150).
